NEATTMaccess is our next-generation communications device that exhibits game-changing miniaturisation and, hence, size, weight and power (SWaP) advantages when compared with any similar device currently on the market today.

Built using e2E’s innovative software development environment, NEATTMaccess is specifically targeted at new and increasingly prominent low-cost innovative delivery platforms such as airborne drones, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and small satellites.

The first variant will be commercially available from Q4 2016 and is specifically designed to provide a satellite communications capability once installed on small Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). This will enable these platforms to have longer endurance and wider coverage due to a beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) communications capability. Migration onto other platforms only involves a 6 – 9 month development and readiness timescale, making NEATTMaccess the technology of choice going forward.

Working at the operational “coal-face” on a wide range of satellite communication systems has enabled us first hand to see how management is being performed and therefore identify where expectations are falling down and individual solution differentiation is being missed. We know what the operational challenges are and have seen how different operators tackle them. Too often, this involves a ‘safe-option’ approach, resulting in procurement of hugely costly enterprise operational support systems (OSS) with little cohesion between them. Whilst such systems are claimed to be both comprehensive and configurable to the environment, we have repeatedly seen this not to be the case. In fact, they are typically unwieldy, need expensive specialists to configure, require costly integration and need bespoke changes to deal with subtle constraints of the satellite system operation. The operator is further tied to a particular vendor, making it difficult to control future development costs. 

Our NEATTMdelivery product suite represents a different way of tackling these operational issues and is designed to greatly reduce capital investment and operational expenditure. NEATTMdelivery is a “no-frills” management capability that focuses on the aspects of service operation that are truly important, such as the user’s quality of experience and communications resilience. It provides the capabilities needed to manage service delivery aspects of your satellite network and places emphasis on delivering competitive advantage from better service monitoring, end-to-end service management and ultimately in improving customer experience management.

Testing the “operational capability” of any communications network is beneficial in predicting when network congestion and performance problems may occur and hence impact customers. Advance notice of this means remedial steps can be taken ahead of time. However, the dilemma is how to cost-effectively do this, based on the unit cost of the user terminals, the large number needed, the coordination required between these terminals and the manpower requirements.

In response to this problem, e2E has developed a new state-of-the-art distributed network simulation capability that can be plugged into real equipment and operated on a real-time basis. Referred to as NEATTMoperations, the initial application has focused on providing a Satellite Access Network Load Simulator capability that can be connected into the operational ground station equipment and emulate potentially thousands of satellite terminals in order to systematically stress test the node under test.
